My Memories
Melvina Lorraine Aaberg
MY MEMORIES by Melvina L. Aaberg is the lovingly told memoir of a woman who was born and grew up in rural Minnesota in the 20s and 30s. Orphaned at a young age, she was adopted by her uncle and aunt while her brothers, ages 14 and younger, remained and worked on the family farm. She married Theodore A. Aaberg, pastor and later president of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS) and its seminary. Widowed in her early 50s, she continued with the work of raising her family and grew into a much-loved figure in her continuing work for the ELS seminary, synod office, archives, and museum, in which places she became famous for her competence, her kindness, and her cookies. Her life ended in a tragic car accident on a rural Minnesota highway two days after her 85th birthday. She had the pleasure of seeing her book in print and in people's hands during her last month.
