Did Jesus really die on a Friday? How could Jesus die on a Friday and resurrect on a Sunday when by His own words, He said He'd be in the grave three days and three nights? No matter how you divide it, you can't get three days and three nights out of Friday afternoon to Sunday before sunrise. For centuries, humanity has recited this Friday to Sunday storyline, but the Bible doesn't support it. In The Crucifixion of Jesus, we set aside our Friday to Sunday bias and evaluate Scripture alone to see what it describes. We follow the gospel writers, examine the foundation of the Jewish Passover meal tied to Jesus' death, minimize our confusion based on the calendar, and let history speak for itself as we take a front-row seat to the final events of Jesus' life on a timeline holding no days of the week. Only at the end of our journey do we assign days to the account so that we aren't misled during our journey. Nearly unbelievably, it appears we may even be able to know the day, month and year that Jesus was crucified when we are done. There is much in the gospels if we let them speak, but be prepared to challenge your long-held understandings, because things may not be as you have believed.
