Dr. Eldon Stafford, Chief Consulting Physician at Orange County Memorial Hospital, rushes home from a pharmaceutical convention. His daughter, afflicted with asthma, has left the hospital without explanation after an acute, life-threatening asthma attack, and none of his colleagues know where she has gone, or the state of her health. Dr. Stafford finds his daughter under the care of a chiropractor, Dr. Galen Reed. Dr. Stafford is initially infuriated that his daughter has come under the influence of a man he considers a quack. But through fits and starts, the relationship between the doctors evolves into tenuous collaboration offering an exciting new approach to health care. Intertwined with their evolving relationship is Dr. Reed's mysterious connection with the death of Dr. Stafford's wife years before, a connection that could strengthen their relationship, or blow it apart. But as their collaboration shows more promise, entrenched powerful interests learn of it, and move to undermine it. This new approach will threaten long-established centers of profit and power. The stakes rise until one of the doctors faces a ruined reputation, and the other faces prison. DYING TO HEAL tells an exciting story that proposes thought-provoking ideas about combining conventional health care with chiropractic care, evolving to offer high-concept ideas about the entire system, ideas of particular relevance as the health care system becomes a hot topic.
