The Lullaby Illusion: a Journey of Awakening
Susan Joyce
I finished a book last night but it has left me with a problem! It was such a powerful ending I can't bear to start another book, despite having a memoir I've been longing to get hold of ready and waiting on my kindle! Do you ever feel like this?
Susan Jackson: Yes, I felt that way after The Lullaby Illusion by Susan Joyce. I couldn't immediately start another after reading as it touched me so much.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, I awoke to the distant drone of aircraft. Stunned, I sat up in bed and listened. Planes. Getting louder. The realization sent shivers down my spine. I placed my hands over my heart. "Oh, my God!" I gasped. "It's the Turks!"
I looked at the clock--5:20. The crack of dawn. I shook Charles, trying to wake him, but he continued to snore. I shook him again to no avail.
I jumped from bed and yelled, "the Turks are attacking!"
Moments later, a series of explosions awakened the entire village of Kyrenia.
"Holy shit!" Charles said, leaping out of bed. "Quick, run for cover."
We scrambled into clothes and ran from our downstairs bedroom, across the cobblestone hall, toward the dining room.
Explosion after explosion rocked the area around us. We dove for cover under the stairs.

The Lullaby Illusion details the harrowing personal journey of a young American woman facing seemingly insurmountable situations while living in the Middle East and Europe.
After miscarriages and the loss of a child in childbirth on the island of Cyprus, Susan seeks solace by creating art, and recording her vivid dreams. Through difficult life changes -- Cyprus's bloody coup and war in 1974, a rescue from a sinking ship in the Indian Ocean, learning of her husband s secret life, and surviving his deadly assault in Belgium -- she discovers her ticking clock is not the child she has failed to produce, but rather the creative potential with which she can create a new life.
