Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles, is known the world over for its pop music heritage. The continuing popularity of dance and club culture in the city sets the scene for Tate Liverpool's exhibition Remix, which explores the cultural collision between art and music. This book, which accompanies the exhibition, examines the fusion of popular music and art over the past two decades. The influence of music on the work of visual artists has been extensive, often providing inspiration for new forms of visual culture created through experiments that blur the boundaries of both art forms. Many of the groups and musicians in this exhibition have themselves been visual artists and have a direct involvement with the visual culture-album covers, videos, performance projections, etc.-connected to marketing and performing music.
