Humans must breathe in the air of our atmosphere to survive. Many cities because of pollution face a dangerous level of contamination in their air. However, an even more deadly air affects both Christians and nonChristians. Ordinary methods or devices cannot detect this poisonous air. The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians, spoke of the "air," when he said that Satan was "the ruler of the authority of the air." (Eph. 2:2) In that, very same verse Paul said the "air" is "the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience." If we breathe in this "air," we will begin to adopt their attitude, thoughts, speech and conduct. 'We know that we are from God, but the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.' (1 John 5:19) Satan controls "the spirit," i.e., worldview, of every human alienated from God, by infecting their beliefs about life. This is why Paul in the same letter exhorted us to be 'renewed in the spirit of our mind.' (Eph. 4:23) Therefore, Christians are to avoid taking in Satanic "air," being influenced by its values, beliefs, thinking, speech and conduct, we must be renewing our mind day by day, discerning what is the will of God. (Rom. 12:2) Paul counseled, "Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth." (Col. 3:2) It is, for this reason, Marshall has penned the DAILY DEVOTIONAL: Daily Musings From the Old Testament, which can help us be protected against Satan's efforts at controlling our mind and heart. For each day of the year, DAILY DEVOTIONAL provides a Daily Bible Reading and comments for consideration.
