"To have a child is to give fate a hostage." John F. Kennedy

In this heartbreaking, yet uplifting memoir, Bonnie Jane Hall struggles to cope with her son Davin's fate and tragic circumstances. And yet Davin turned a situation that would break most people into an opportunity to become a compassionate and accomplished human being. Using letters interspaced between the two of them and her other two children, she recounts her own struggles as a young mother raising her children as best she could through challenging periods.

Dear Mom,
There are a lot of odd things that have happened to me over the past five years. The oddest has been the philosophical malaise that has set in. I have been a searcher for most of my life when it comes to philosophy. I've read all the great books of the great minds. I've studied most of the large schools of thought both East and West. I've tried many practices and disciplines. Only now at the age of almost forty-two and dealing with the weight of many heavy metaphorical stones, am I begining to understand a few things.

Well talk soon. Love you Mom.
Davin

Dear Davin,
Your phone calls and the sound of your voice makes me feel so happy. You are from my own body and I adore you, your brother and sister. You are the best part of me and always will be. I believe love is the most powerful force in the universe and like gravity, love's embrace draws and holds us together.

Take care my dear, wonderful Davin.
Love Mom

This memoir reveals strong bonds of love between a family going through a crisis and gives testimony to the triumph of the human spirit.
