Horse Whispers
Anne Winning
Sixteen horses from various backgrounds have come to live and work together on a property in Australia. Straight from the horses' mouths, we hear about their work and their friendships, their likes and dislikes. They share what makes them sad, happy, annoyed, fearful or grateful. In so doing they teach us that horses have feelings too.
Through interviews conducted by the 'Listening Lady, ' we hear about their previous lives and the impact of humans on how they think and feel about themselves and about interactions with humans. Their stories are funny, sad, informative and insightful. Young readers are engaged with questions posed by the horses, stimulating reflection and empathy.
The character and 'horsenality' of each horse comes alive through their tales. Just like human personalities, some are placid; some are playful and cheeky; some are anxious and some are inquisitive. Just as in the human world, their are leaders and followers. In this book, the horses do the whispering and a human does the listening.
