Summertime for David Stanhope means barbeques, bike riding, and being chased across dimensions by evil sorcerers. When David Stanhope and his sister Amanda unearthed a mysterious ruby in their family's attic last summer, it launched them on the adventure of a lifetime. Now, a year later, they're back home, trying to lead normal lives. Until one day a knock at their door once again launches them into dangerous power struggles in the magical world of Abraxas. Two of their friends from Abraxas have been sent to warn the Stanhopes about a new threat. The followers of evil Adrian the Deceiver are continuing their former leader?s quest to gather the five magical Stones of Abraxas that give their possessor total protection from harm. The Stanhopes' ruby is one of the sought-after stones. It's clear that if the family remains in the nonmagical world, they will be defenseless if their enemies come for them. Although fleeing to Abraxas could mean even greater peril, David and Amanda must return to the magical world in hopes of protecting themselves and their precious ruby. While the Stanhopes try to figure out whether they can ever return home, they find themselves facing many questions: Who's behind the repeated break-ins at Castle Annwyn? What's wrong with Cousin Beth? Why are people suddenly so terrified of Cousin Peter? And what's that gooey pink stuff climbing up everyone's legs? Whatever happened to a nice, relaxing summer vacation like normal kids have?
