The Saline Realm was a land that captivated the world with its mastery over the forces of magic, but all of its relations with the world were tenuous at best. As their displays over the mysterious force grew in stature, so did fear in the surrounding nations. There was curiosity from the north, caution from the south, indignation in the east, and ambition in the west. Conflicts arose, casualties were inflicted, and eventually, there was war.
During this two hundred year campaign, a figure of great power was raised whose influence turned the tides of battle in favor of Salia. His hands alone buried legions and turned entire armies of men to ash. His movements, swift and relentless, cut down more souls than could be counted. His eyes burned with indwelt rages and sorrows, and all who entered the fields of his wrath defended their lives in vain.
He was known throughout the Outer Realms as the Great Destroyer, and even those in the Saline Realm came to fear the power he held. He nevertheless fought with a faint hope burning deep within his heart. He would prevail in his endeavor, he would find acceptance, and he would not be alone.
The Magic War ended shortly after, and the Great Destroyer returned to home followed only by his deeds and his captain, but the High Elders, leaders of the nation, greeted his return with a counterfeit celebration made at his expense. The mocked champion of Salia was embittered, and they gave him a new title and name no different in meaning than the titles given by his enemies. He was thenceforth known as Darrio Deloran, Firestar of the Saline Realm.
