China and the Asia-Pacific Region deals with China's geostrategic relations with Asia-Pacific countries with special reference to its twenty-first century naval strategy in the region. The book concentrates especially on China's apparent intention to expand its maritime influence to the Western Pacific and the Indian Ocean by putting pressure on the security of regional SLOCs. After the end of the Cold War, China wants to become a peer competitor against the US hegemonic sea power status in the world's oceans.
