Millions in high quality diamonds taken from Europes finest collections by the Nazis and stashed at the Helgsberg Villa near Berlin were confiscated by OSS operatives days before the end of WW II. Turned into OSS assets then transferred to the newly formed CIA, they were given to trusted operatives to retain secretly to finance highly sensitive intelligence operations and avoid Congressional knowledge and interference. Fifty years later, some of these diamonds began to turn up at private auctions. Asked by his FBI partner to check it out, Senior Agent Matt Clark began investigating an undocumented fifteen carat yellow marquise which had to have been cut from a famous diamond confiscated by the Nazis from a Paris museum in '42. Closing in on the truth, suddenly a sniper ambushes Matt in a New York alley. The assault wounds him and ends his field career with the FBI. When he recovers, to stay in the field he accepts a position as Chief Investigator for the Ventura County DAs office in Southern California. Joined by former lover and frequent partner Lt. Becky Di Nardo, they race against time to find out what is going on and who is behind this effort...before the next attempt on his life...which might succeed.
