Henry Bolston is an honest, hard-working, church-going businessman. He's a good neighbor, a dependable friend and a much sought-after bachelor. Life is good. But then comes the stock market crash and the Great Depression. In the midst of the turmoil, he falls in love with the beautiful stranger in town and unexpectedly starts a family. Dire circumstances force him to turn to bootlegging whiskey. What else could he do? He had grown up in extreme poverty and had no desire to return to that way of life or to subject his new family to such.
