The day after her abusive husband dies, forty-five-year-old Jane Mullet climbs aboard a Qantas flight to Australia with only her purse and a Visa card. She is determined to fulfill a childhood dream and cleanse twenty-five years of an emotionally torturous marriage.

Alone for the first time in her life, she rents a camper van and sets out on her own to discover Australia. But the past won't release her. Haunted by her husband, she fights to discover who she is without him while facing the challenges of navigating in a new country.

In defiance of everything she has been taught, Jane takes on Cleo, a young Aboriginal woman also traveling alone and trying to find her way. Together they trek across the Outback. Jane explores a new language and culture, confronting her prejudices and racism while painstakingly awakening to the meaning of authentic relationships with women-and men.
