In 2008, the Great Recession hits America and begins to unravel it. An old way of life is dissolving and a new one is forming. In a small town on the East Coast Fall Line, Fleckner, there is a murder that must be explained: a dead man whose body has been cut in two with one half missing. More deaths follow as events circle in meaning. A famous defense attorney agrees to take on the trial defense and later, a financial conspiracy, huge in scope, when it is exposed in the trial as possibly being behind the murders too. It is The Jubilee Trust, a conspiratorial financial scheme dating back to the high point of the British Empire in 1897. Then there is the murderer who is an unreliable narrator, but who dispenses clues for the reader even after her death. and the question remains: Who or what is the real murderer, and why?
