One Battle After Another (2025 Movie)
Paul Thomas Anderson's "One Battle After Another" is a grand, fast-paced action thriller with a satirical pulse—his first IMAX release and the most ambitious production of his career to date. Shot in VistaVision with Michael Bauman (cinematography) and featuring a stunning soundtrack by Anderson's longtime collaborator Jonny Greenwood, the film combines Anderson's crystal-clear vision with brilliant performances from Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and breakout star Chase Infiniti.
Already at its first screenings, the film was recognized by critics as one of Anderson's strongest works to date. A natural addition to an already outstanding filmography with masterpieces such as "The Master", "Phantom Thread", "Boogie Nights", "Magnolia" and, of course, "There Will Be Blood".
"One Battle After Another" was quickly identified as an obvious Oscar candidate across categories such as best picture, director, screenplay and acting - with particular attention paid to Chase Infiniti, Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn.
Loosely based on the Thomas Pynchon novel "Vineland," the film follows failed former revolutionary Bob (DiCaprio) who lives in seclusion outside of society with his teenage daughter Willa (Infiniti). When an old enemy resurfaces after 16 years and Willa disappears, Bob is forced out of hiding to save her - and along the way must confront the violent and chaotic consequences of his past.
"One Battle After Another" won 6 Academy Awards at the 2026 Oscars, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Sean Penn).
