"Sovereign Count" is the story of Helias du Maine, Count of Maine circa 1100 AD. It is the story of his battle for his birthright; and to secure forever the independent sovereignty of Maine from its Norman conquerors. It is the story of a man who twice stood in defiance, face to face, of King William II of England and Normandy...and prevailed. The story tells of his personal trials, loves, pitched battles with the forces of Normandy; and with the warlord, Robert of Belesme. The story culminates with Count Helias' dramatic rescue of King Henry I at the Battle of Tinchebray; thus assuring Henry's Crown over England and Normandy. Every person named in this story actually lived and performed the historical acts described. I have fictionalized scenarios and embellished the historical fact with description and dialogue in order to make the events and personalities come to life.
